Since rebranding from Teekay LNG in 2022 following its acquisition by Stonepeak, Seapeak has solidified Glasgow not just as a regional office, but as the Global Headquarters for its LNG operations. While the company maintains a diverse international footprint, the "brain" of the fleet resides at Skypark (144 Elliot Street).
The Glasgow office is the nerve center for the technical and operational management of one of the world's largest independent fleets of LNG carriers.
The office houses a significant portion of Seapeak’s shore-based professionals, overseeing everything from complex engineering projects to global logistics.
Perhaps the most prominent asset is the Seapeak Training Centre. Opened in 2015, this state-of-the-art facility is one of the few in the world capable of providing high-fidelity, full-mission bridge and cargo simulation for liquefied gas, with hundreds of officers and crew members travelling to Glasgow annually to hone their skills in ship handling and liquid cargo management.
It is widely cited by industry bodies (like SIGTTO) as the gold standard for maritime training, ensuring that the next generation of gas mariners is "made in Glasgow."
In a major show of commitment to the city, Seapeak signed a massive 16-year Lifecycle Agreement with the technology giant Wärtsilä in 2024. Wärtsilä has embedded a full-time Contract Manager directly inside Seapeak's Glasgow office. This isn't a remote arrangement; it is a permanent, high-tech industrial partnership physically rooted in the Glasgow HQ to manage the reliability of the global LNG fleet through 2040 and beyond.
In late 2024, Seapeak became the first shipping company in the world to join the UN Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP 2.0). This was a Glasgow-led initiative. By joining, Seapeak’s Glasgow office has set the global "gold standard" for methane emissions reporting, effectively forcing the rest of the international shipping industry to play catch-up with standards developed on the Clyde.
While traditional shipping is often seen as stagnant, Seapeak is in the middle of an aggressive growth phase managed from the Clyde. The "French" LPG Series: Throughout 2025 and 2026, a series of brand-new, high-efficiency LPG carriers (including the Champagny, Courchevel, Aalter, and Antwerpen) have been entering the fleet. In January 2026, Seapeak returned to Samsung Heavy Industries to order another pair of 174,000 LNG carriers (worth approx. $500 million), adding to the five already on order for 2027. These aren't just "ships"—they are some of the most technologically advanced moving objects on the planet, and their operational life is being planned from Elliot Street.
While Seapeak was born from the legacy of Vancouver-based Teekay—and still maintains its corporate headquarters in Canada—its ultimate ownership now rests with the New York-based investment firm Stonepeak. This transition has seen the company evolve from a Canadian-listed partnership into a privately-held global titan, with its operational heart beating most loudly in Glasgow."
Seapeak is a cornerstone of the modern Scottish Maritime Cluster. Their presence at Skypark acts as a magnet for other maritime services, from legal and insurance firms to specialized equipment suppliers, proving that while the building of commercial ships has moved, the mastery of ships is still very much a Clydeside profession.
